Yangon Region Transport Authority has been working to introduce a cashless payment system on buses running in Yangon. It has conducted an 11-day trial run of a new card payment system involving 1,458 buses. Another 432 buses will be fitted with the card system in the next phase.
“We wanted to make sure that the technologies used here are compatible with residents of Yangon. Moreover, we had to do step-by-step negotiations for this cashless payment system by connecting with local banks. That’s why it took a while to implement it,” said YRTA joint secretary U Hla Aung.
Asia Starmar Transport Intelligent won the bid to implement the Yangon Payment System designed to facilitate payments for Yangon Water Bus, Circular Train and shopping centers.
Designed to test the required distance between card and card-reading machine and assess payment convenience and payment time, the trial run went without glitches. However, YRTA found that passengers needed to queue up to make payment and so more infrastructure needs to be built to ensure commuter convenience.
Yangon has 135 bus lines with a total of 6,545 buses providing services to 1.9 million commuters every day.
The Yangon Regional Government transformed the old bus system into a new one under the name YBS. The Chief Minister of Yangon promised to put a card payment system on every bus within six months, but after three years the system is yet to be operational.

ယာဉ်စီးခပေးချေရာတွင် ငွေအကြွေထည့်ကာစီးရသည့်စနစ်မှ ကြိုတင်ငွေဖြည့်ကတ်ဖြင့် ပေးဆောင်ရသည့်စနစ် YPS ကို ပြောင်းလဲရန် ရန်ကုန်ရှိ YBSဘတ်စ်ကားများတွင် စမ်းသပ်သည့်အဆင့်ဆောင်ရွက်ပြီးဖြစ်ကြောင်း ရန်ကုန်တိုင်း ဒေသကြီး သယ်ယူပို့ဆောင်ရေး ကြီးကြပ်ကွပ်ကဲမှုအာဏပိုင်အဖွဲ့မှ သိရသည်။
၁၁ ရက်ကြာခဲ့သည့် စမ်းသပ်အဆင့်အတွက် YBS ယာဉ် ၁၄၅၈ စီးတွင် ကတ်စနစ်တပ်ဆင်ခြင်းနှင့် ခရီးသည် ၉၅ ဦး တို့ကိုကတ်ဖြင့်ပေးဆောင်စေခြင်း ကို ပထမအသုတ်အဖြစ် ဆောင်ရွက်ပြီးစီးပြီးဖြစ်ကာ ဒုတိယအသုတ်အနေဖြင့် ယာဉ်အစီးရေ ၄၃၂ စီးတွင် ကတ်ဖတ်သည့်စက်များဆက်လက်တပ်ဆင်သွားမည်ဖြစ်ကြောင်း သိရသည်။
“ ရန်ကုန်မြို့နေ ပြည်သူလူထုနဲ့ ညီညွတ်တဲ့ နည်းပညာသုံးစွဲမှုဖြစ်အောင် လုပ်ဆောင်နေတာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒါ့အပြင် ဘဏ်နဲ့ ချိတ်ဆက်ဆောင်ရွက်မှုတွေ ပြီးတော့ ဘဏ်ရဲ့စနစ်တွေအရ စည်းမျဉ်းဥပဒေတွေအရ ဒါတွေကို ဘယ်လိုလုပ်မလဲ အဲဒီလိုအဆင့်ဆင့် ညှိနှိှုင်းပြီး လုပ်ပေးနေရတဲ့အတွက် အချိန်ပေးရတဲ့ အပေါ်မှာ နည်းနည်းတော့ ကြာမြင့်သွားတာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ် ” ဟု YRTA တွဲဖက်အတွင်းရေးမှူး ဦးလှအောင်က ပြောသည်။
YPS စနစ်ဖော်ဆောင်ရန် Aisa Starmar Transport Intelligent ကုမ္ပဏီကလုပ်ကိုင်ခွင့်ရရှိခဲ့ပြီး ဘတ်စ်ကားအပြင် Yangon Water Bus ၊ မြို့ပတ်ရထား၊ ဈေးဝယ်စင်တာတို့တွင်ပါအသုံးပြုနိုင်သည့် ဘက်စုံသုံးနိုင်ရန် ရည်ရွယ်ထားကြောင်း သိရသည်။
အဆိုပါ စမ်းသပ်ချက်တွင် ကတ်စနစ်၏ စက်နှင့် ကတ်တို့ ထိတွေ့မှု အကွာအဝေး ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာများ ၊ ငွေပေးချေမှု ဆိုင်ရာများ ၊ ပေးချေမှု ကြာမြင့်သည့် အချိန်များကို စမ်းသပ်ခဲ့ခြင်းဖြစ်ပြီး အားလုံးအဆင်ပြေချောမွေ့မှု ရှိနေကြောင်း သိရသည်။ စမ်းသပ်မှုတွင် ခရီးသည်များအနေဖြင့် ကားပေါ်တက်ရောက်ရန် စနစ်တကျဖြင့် တန်းစီရပ်ပြီးတက်ရန် လိုအပ်သည့်အတွက် လိုအပ်သောအခြေခံအဆောက်အုံများကို ထပ်မံ တည်ဆောက်ပေးရန်လိုအပ်နေကြောင်း ၎င်းက ပြောသည်။
လက်ရှိတွင် YBS ယာဉ်လိုင်းများ၌ ယာဉ်လိုင်းပေါင်း ၁၃၅ လိုင်းတွင် တရားဝင်မှတ်ပုံတင်ပြေးဆွဲနေသည့် ယာဉ်အစီးရေ ၆၇၄၅ စီးရှိပြီး နေ့စဉ် ယာဉ်အစီးရေ ၄၄၀၀ ကျော်ဖြင့် ခရီးသွားပြည်သူပေါင်း ၁ ဒသမ ၉ သန်းခန့်ကို နေ့စဉ်ပြေးဆွဲ ဝန်ဆောင်မှုပေးလျက်ရှိသည်။
ယခင် မ.ထ.သ စနစ်မှ YBS စနစ်ကို ၂၀၁၆ ခုနှစ်တွင်း ပြောင်းလဲခဲ့ခြင်းဖြစ်ပြီး စတင်ပြောင်းလဲချိန်တွင် ရန်ကုန်တိုင်းဝန်ကြီးချုပ်မှ ၆ လအတွင်း အဆိုပါ ယာဉ်လိုင်းများအားလုံးတွင် ကတ်စနစ်ဖြင့် ငွေပေးချေမူများ ပြုလုပ်သွားမည် ဖြစ်ကြောင်း ပြောကြားခဲ့သည်။
ရန်ကုန်ဘတ်စ်ကားလိုင်းများကို YBS အဖြစ်ပြောင်းလဲဖော်ဆောင်ပြီး သုံးနှစ်ပြည့် ယခုနှစ်ဇန်နဝါရီလတွင် ကတ်စနစ်ကို မိတ်ဆက်ရန် စီစဉ်ခဲ့သော်လည်း လက်ရှိအချိန်ထိ မည်သည့်အချိန်တွင် တရားဝင်အသုံးပြုနိုင်မည်ကို ထုတ်မပြောသေးပေ။
