Allen & Gledhill Celebrates First Year in Yangon

Allen & Gledhill, one of Singapore’s largest law firms, celebrated its first year in Myanmar.

The firm said it has been involved in a number of transactions, including offshore financing for projects in sectors such as power, agriculture and real estate since it set up its office in Yangon last year.

The firm was also involved in a joint operating agreement for onshore oil blocks between a Myanmar company and a foreign firm and the first condominium project by a foreign developer approved by the Myanmar Investment Commission.

Minn Naing Oo, managing director, Allen & Gledhill (Myanmar), said, “Out team of lawyers has been kept busy in the past year and it is especially gratifying for us to be involved in many first-of-its-kind transactions.

“It is an exciting time for Myanmar right now. Foreign investments have increased significantly. There have been major revisions to important legislations since 2011 and we are expecting more to be passed in the coming months.”

The firm’s celebration event included a panel discussion on Myanmar’s investment environment, focusing on recent developments in legislation. Topics covered included the proposed new draft Investment Law and Companies Law, latest developments in the banking and real estate sectors as well as the new arbitration regime.
