Ayeyarwady Bank last week began accepting MasterCard and China Union Pay (CUP) cards for local cash withdrawals at its ATMs in Myanmar, making it the latest Myanmar bank to join the global payment community, the bank said.
U Phyo Aung, managing director of Ayeyarwady Bank, said: “[Now] Ayeyarwady Bank is ready to accept MasterCard and China Union Pay cards for local ATM cash withdrawals. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that the ATM acceptance is smooth and compliant with MasterCard and China Union Pay’s rigorous requirements.”
The move will support the SEA Games and assist travellers coming to Myanmar to celebrate the games, he said. The 27th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) will be held in Nay Pyi Taw in December.
The bank said it aims to drive financial inclusion and reduce the usage of cash by expanding the number of points where local currency cash withdrawals can be made in Myanmar.
Nay Pyi Taw-based Ayeyarwady has 52 branches and operates 73 ATMs across the country.
