Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will fly to Myanmar on March 1 to attend the third Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit to be hosted by Myanmar, sources in the prime minister office said.
The seven-nation economic forum groups Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan and the summit is slated for March 1-4 in Nay Pyi Taw.
The sources said Sheikh Hasina will hold a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the summit.
The group earlier decided that Dhaka will host the secretariat of the economic forum.
This will be the first visit of Hasina to a foreign country after she became Prime Minister for the third time after winning the parliamentary election on January 5 this year.
The First and Second BIMSTEC Summits were held in Thailand in 2004 and India in 2008. Myanmar assumed BIMSTEC Chair in 2009. Xinhua
