Japanese photographic and digital imaging solutions giant Canon last week announced its sponsorship of the 27th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), which will be held in Myanmar in December.
Canon will be the SEA Games “official imaging and document solutions sponsor”, working with organisers, fans and photographers, it said in a statement.
“Inspired by the SEA Games motto which is focused on sustainability, sportsmanship and friendship, Canon wants to champion this celebration of the culture, heritage and traditions of Southeast Asia as official sponsor for the 2013 SEA Games,” said Kensaku Konishi, president and CEO of Canon Singapore.
“Beyond fostering better relationships through sports across the region, Canon also hopes to help galvanise more support from other partners and stakeholders for the host country, by raising visibility of the promise and possibilities of Myanmar in this pivotal period of social and economic development.”
The 2013 SEA Games will be hosted in Nay Pyi Daw, Yangon and Mandalay, and will feature more than 32 sports and 6,000 athletes from 11 countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam.
Canon’s services during the event include technical support and advice, repair and maintenance services, as well as loans of the latest Canon EOS system camera and lens equipment, it said.
Canon will also provide document management support and business multi-function devices to the organisers.
Canon has a global network of close to 300 companies and employs about 200,000 people worldwide.
