Payment services provider 2C2P and Myanmar National Payment Services (MPU) have started a service, EasyBills, which will allow customers to pay bills online and top up phones.
Customers will be able to buy MPT, Ooredoo and Telenor prepaid cards by using this service. The card user must register at a local bank to use the online payment service.
In the future, the company hopes to allow people to pay electricity bills and taxes online.
“At first, we chose to introduce the system for prepaid cards, which many people use. Later we will provide services for electricity and water bills, garbage collection taxes and so on,” said U Nyein Chan Soe Win, managing director of 2C2P in Myanmar.
However, customers said prepaid cards can already be bought easily at shops on the street, but online bill payment service is something that is needed the most.
“If possible, we want to have the online electricity bill payment services. Most of the people usually pay the charges at the end of the month. It takes a long time as there are massive queues. I’d rather pay bills online than top up cards,” U Ko Latt from South Dagon township said.
U Zaw Lin Htut, CEO of MPU, said that there are 21 banks that are members of MPU and there are about one million MPU card users in Myanmar.
The EasyBills application can be downloaded from easybills.com.mm. The customer must enter a phone number, amount of credit and MPU card number to top up phone.
