A centralised market in Mandalay for selling gems and jewelry will be opened in October, according to an official from the Mandalay regional government.
This will be an expansion of the existing Mahar Aung Myay Gems market, in which 2,560 shops will be added, aimed at attracting more buyers.
The gem sellers who are currently running businesses in the Mahar Aung Myay market will be prioritised.
“We are trying to open a high-quality gem market in the last quarter of this year. But it takes longer because the construction has been expanded. This place will be a unique place in Mandalay in which all gem stores will be gathered in once place,” the official said.
A jade museum and a training centre for jade carving will also be included in the market complex.
