The Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development will provide K960 million in loans to develop animal husbandry in the villages of Sagaing region, according to Dr Myint Soe, assistant director of Livestock and Veterinary Department of Sagaing region.
Each of the 32 villages will get a loan of K30 million, and those who breed bulls, cows, sheep and goats can get loan under the direction of respective committee in their villages.
Dr Myint Soe said, “Committees will be set up in the villages and the representatives of each committee will get the money from the ministry and loans will be disbursed through them. Depending on the type of animal, loan amount and outstanding debt, a repayment period will be set. The local government will manage and select which villages will give the loan.”
Recently, the government has been providing aid to develop animal husbandry sector around the country. It has struck cooperation deals with other countries to acquire foreign knowledge and technology.
Some loans were provided last year for livestock in some villages of Sagaing region such as Monywa, Hteechint and Mawlite.
