Hummingbird restaurant, lounge, and roof terrace was officially launched on April 29 in Yangon. More than 300 guests celebrated the opening of the new dining concept aimed at customers looking for a high-quality wining and dining experience.
Located in the western side of downtown Yangon on Phone Gyi Street, Hummingbird aims to establish itself as an international, high-end restaurant in the area. Set in a restored historic building, Hummingbird covers three floors, each of them introducing a different experience.
On the ground floor, guests can enjoy Latin American food with a modern twist. All the menus have been created by the award-winning chef, Wayne Third, who has cooked for stars such as The Rolling Stones, Sir Elton John and Bruce Springsteen.
The first floor has been transformed into a speakeasy-style cocktail bar, complete with leather Chesterfield sofas and reclaimed teak décor. A willow tree runs through all three floors of the building, with the roots on the ground floor, opening up into two large branches to form the bar on the first floor. The top of the tree reaches up to the rooftop terrace, where guests can relax in the evening sun with good friends and a cocktail in hand. A selection of lighter, sharing dishes is also available for ordering on the first floor and rooftop terrace.
Hummingbird says it uses locally sourced ingredients as much as possible. The menu is seasonal and will change according to the best ingredients available, with a particular focus on specials which will be created from freshly sourced meat and fish of the day. The restaurant’s team claims to be community focused, and makes extra efforts to collaborate with local farmers and fishermen. All the fish served will be line-caught locally, and wild organic venison and meat will be used when available.
Anna Sway-Tin, director and co-owner of the restaurant, said: “There is a gap in the market for this type of dining experience and we are proud to be giving something back to the local community by using locally sourced ingredients. We hope people enjoy the buzzing yet laid-back atmosphere as much as we do and that in time, people will start to view Hummingbird as a home away from home.”
Hummingbird also offers outside catering services for a range of events and functions from weddings to office parties.
Hummingbird is owned by Gallon Concepts, a Myanmar-based international management consultancy which focuses on concept creation for the F&B industry including dining, catering, and cooking classes.
