Ideabox Joins Amazon to Launch Myanmar in the Cloud

Ideabox Myanmar announced it has joined the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Activate program to provide more resources for its portfolio of startup companies.

AWS Activate is a program designed to provide startups with the resources needed to get started quickly and easily on AWS platform.

“It’s a great program to motivate more of our startups to use the world-class cloud infrastructure to experiment more ideas, and accelerate their development process in building highly scalable apps, ” said Kaung Sitt, co-founder of ideabox Myanmar.

Under the AWS Activate program’s Portfolio Package, the startups in the ideabox Myanmar portfolio will receive AWS service credits and technical support.

As the uptake of mobile phone usage in Myanmar increases following the liberalisation of the telecommunications industry, the use of mobile data is expected to increase.

This opens up the opportunity for startups to adopt cloud technology when it was previously next to impossible.

“As geeks we have always been curious about cloud services, especially with AWS that has been pioneering in cloud computing. With the AWS Activate program package, it provides us the important resources and support to easily use AWS in our development work,” said Ye Wint Ko, CTO and co-founder of Bindez.

“In Myanmar, local entrepreneurs are developing innovative ICT programmes and mobile apps, but often do not have the resources to bring these to market or scale their solutions. Our innovation and incubation programmes provide expertise, funding, and exposure to develop entrepreneurialism at the grassroots level,” an Ooredoo spokesperson said.

“With this partnership with AWS, we aim to support local businesses via these flagship developments, and to provide inspiring role models of success to encourage human growth through innovation, with the potential to impact millions of lives across our markets,” she said.
