Japanese Firm, YCDC Sign Non-Revenue Water Deal

Japan Consortium LLC, a joint venture between TSS Tokyo Water and Toyo Engineering Corp, has signed a contract with the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) for a Non-Revenue Water (NRW) project in Mayangone township in Yangon.

TSS Tokyo Water President Dr Atsushi Masuko announced the deal at an event in Yangon.

The project kicked off last month and is projected to end on March 2015. The project scope includes: flow meter installation, replacement of damaged house meters, pump installation, repair leakage, integrated supply pipe and connection change-over installation.

Masuko said, “Locals in Mayangone township will be able to enjoy purified drinking water through pipelines within the next five years through the current project.”

Currently, Yangon serves for 38 percent of residents with water service for an approximately 5.15 million population in YCDC service area and non-revenue water rate is as high as 66 percent at 50 percent leakage rate, which requires improvement. TSS said getting involved in the water system for YCDC at this time is “significant.”

YCDC Mayor U Hla Myint said at the signing event: “TSS Tokyo Water will be able to provide Myanmar citizens with safe and secure water system based on their expertise, experiences and knowledge.”

TSS Tokyo Water also announced that it will exhibit its technology and water systems at this year’s MYANWATER 2014, which is scheduled to be held at the Myanmar Event Park in Yangon from December 4-6.

Followed by the firm’s participation at Myanmar Water 2014 last month, TSS said it aims to take this opportunity to share the know-how and technology with its Myanmar counterparts.
