The sales of latest model cars have gone up again after a brief sluggish period due to higher demands from districts outside Yangon and stable prices of cars, auto dealers say.
“The sales have increased because the price remained unchanged. Prado, Surf, Kluger and CRV brands are now sold for K20-30 million depending on the model,” said Ko Min Htet who owns a Car Show Room in Thingangyun.
The sale is even better in districts and towns outside Yangon, he added.
Now people are observing the market and taking a wait-and-see policy before importing updated model cars. So new car imports have slowed down a little, Ko Htet said.
Car dealers said the sales increased again as the CIF rate for importing cars stayed the same. Usually, the CIF rate is changed annually in January.
“Car sales have increased again, the dealers are busy at selling and buying now. 1300 cc cars are in demand at present,” said Ko Kyar Gyi, an car dealer with five years experience.
Under the “replace old with new” policy of the Ministry of Commerce, cars manufactured between 1997 and 2007 are permitted to be imported.
Left-hand-drive city buses manufactured in 2003 and after and left-hand-drive buses manufactured in 2008 and after are allowed to to be imported also, a source from the Ministry of Commerce said.
