Lin Myat Aung Becomes Myanmar’s First Mobile Tune Star

Telenor’s nationwide search for Myanmar’s first mobile tune star came to an end as the public selected Lin Myat Aung’s tune as Telenor’s new audio identity and ringtune when mobile services launch in September.

The winner of the one-month long competition was crowned at an award ceremony at Park Royal hotel, with performances by Tune Star’s celebrity judges Lynn Lynn, Diramo and Khin Myat Mon and the competition finalists. Other performances of young musicians from Myanmar playing piano and harp are also showcased.

“There are no words to describe what I’m feeling right now. I would like to thank Telenor Myanmar for creating this opportunity and the many fans who voted for my tune. It was an amazing experience working with the celebrity judges and I promise that I will continue to create the music that I’m passionate about,” said Lin Myat Aung, the winner of Telenor Myanmar Nationwide Tune Star Contest.

Telenor Myanmar’s spokesperson for the Tune Star Contest, Ko Nay Myo Htun said, “We are very proud to introduce the very first mobile tune star to Myanmar. The Myanmar public has chosen a worthy winner with a tune shaped by Lin Myat Aung individual expression of creativity and musical passion. We are proud that our future mobile subscribers will be able to experience the tune through our services when we launch in September.”

The competition, which ran from June 25 to July 25, received 8,500 submissions made by music enthusiasts. The aspiring musicians were from across Myanmar, from different age groups and locations. The three finalists were chosen by a panel consisting of Lynn Lynn, Diramo and Khin Myat Mon as well as selected Telenor employees.

People voted for the winner on Facebook and through SMS or phone line. Fifty shortlisted contestants across Myanmar were invited to the event to witness the selection of the first Mobile Tune Star in Myanmar.

In addition to becoming Myanmar’s first mobile tune star, K10 million was rewarded to the winner and the two runner-ups received K2 million each.

The winning melody will be used to create an exclusive audio identity for Telenor in Myanmar. The chosen tune will also be part of promotional TV and radio campaigns, and will be featured wherever the customers encounter Telenor, such as holding music for the call centre, as a mobile ring tune and in automated messages.
