Yangon Technological University has begun an internship program with Mitsubishi Corporation, according to sources from the university.
Starting this month, Myanmar students will attend a three-month program in Japan intended to foster engineering students.
Mitsubishi is well-established in Myanmar, and has recently negotiated a deal with the government to operate Mandalay International Airport, and is already heavily invested in the power sector.
Japan Myanmar signed a MOU with Myanmar this summer to provide aid to upgrade technical universities in Yangon and Mandalay.
This partnership between a Myanmar university and a private Japanese firm is the first of its kind, but partnerships between universities already exist, such as that between Yangon University and Japan’s Kansai University, which allows for exchange of students, academic literature and publications.
