State-run Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) and MPRL E&P Company signed two contracts for an offshore gas project in block A-6 on December 16, one for production sharing and the other for gas production and distribution.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing sounded a caution that environmental protection and workplace safety need to be prioritized in the project’s implementation.
Block A-6, located 80 kilometers west of Pathein City, Ayeyarwady Region, includes five projects, namely Shwepyithar-1, Shweyitun-1, Pyithit-1, Pyitharyar-1 and Shweyitun-2, announced in September 2018.
These projects are expected to start commercial production by the end of 2023.
“These two contracts mark a significant milestone not only for our joint-venture partners and stakeholders but also for the citizens of Myanmar, who are the real owners of the natural resources,” said U Moe Myint, chief executive of MPRL E&P.
MPRL E&P holds a 20 percent stake in block A-6; the remaining 80 percent is equally split between Australia’s Woodside Energy and France’s Total Myanmar E&P.
The project signed on December 16 will play a critical role in meeting domestic gas demand given that production will start in a short time.
Myanmar aims to implement offshore gas projects as they are economically viable for exploration, production and distribution.

ဧရာဝတီတိုင်းဒေသကြီး ပုသိမ်မြို့အနောက်ဖက် ကီလိုမီတာ(၈၀)အကွာတွင် တည်ရှိသော အဆိုပါ လုပ်ကွက်အတွင်း ရှာဖွေရေးတွင်းငါးခုပါဝင်ပြီး နောက်ဆုံးရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိမှုဖြစ်သော ရွှေရည်ထွန်းအမှတ် – (၂) ကို ၂၀၁၈ခုနှစ် စက်တင်ဘာလ၌ ထုတ်ပြန်ကြေညာခဲ့သည်။

ကမ်းလွန်လုပ်ကွက်အမှတ် A-6 တွင် ပြည်သာတွင်းအမှတ်-၁၊ ရွှေရည်ထွန်းတွင်းအမှတ်-၁၊ ပြည်သစ် တွင်းအမှတ်-၁၊ ပြည်သာယာတွင်းအမှတ်-၁နှင့် ရွှေရည်ထွန်းတွင်းအမှတ်-၂တို့ တည်ရှိသည်။
ယင်းလုပ်ကွက်များမှ သတ်မှတ်ကာလဖြစ်သော ၂၀၂၃ခုနှစ် နှစ်ကုန်ပိုင်းမှစတင်၍ သဘာဝဓါတ်ငွေ့ ထုတ်လုပ်ဖြန့်ဖြူးနိုင်ရန် ရည်မှန်းထားကြောင်း လျှပ်စစ်နှင့်စွမ်းအင်ဝန်ကြီးကဆိုသည်။

A-6 တွင် ရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိခဲ့သည့် သဘာဝဓာတ်ငွေ့ပမာဏသည် အချိန်တိုအတွင်း စီးပွားဖြစ်ထုတ်လုပ်၍ နိုင်ငံတော်ပြည်တွင်းသုံးစွဲနိုင်ရေးအတွက် အထူးအားထားရမည့်စီမံကိန်းဖြစ်ကြောင်း သိရသည်။ နိုင်ငံအတွက်ပထမဦးဆုံးရေအလွန်နက်သောဒေသရှိ ကမ်းလွန် စီမံကိန်းဖြစ်သောကြောင့် သဘာဝဓာတ်ငွေ့ရှာဖွေတူးဖော်ထုတ်လုပ်မှုနှင့် သယ်ယူ ပို့ဆောင်ဖြန့်ဖြူး ရောင်းချမှုဆိုင်ရာ ကဏ္ဍများတွင် စီးပွားရေးတွက်ခြေကိုက်မှု အလားအလာ များဖြင့် စီမံကိန်းကို အမြန်ဆုံးအကောင်အထည်ဖော်နိုင်ရေးကို ရည်ရွယ်ကြောင်း သိရသည်။
