Myanmar and Finland have agreed to cooperate in sustainable development of mineral resources in the Southeast Asian country.
The cooperation will be made under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) initiated between the Ministry of Mines and the Department of Geology of Finland in Nay Pyi Taw last week.
The signing of the MoU was prompted by a visit to Finland by President U Thein Sein in March last year, during which Finnish President Sauli Niinisto pledged a grant of €6.5 million to Myanmar in 2014 after Finland wrote off 50 percent of the total debt owed by Myanmar.
Myanmar also expressed its intention to cooperate with Finland as a partner country to join freight handling and environmental conservation in its plan of building three deep seaports.
