Myanmar Journalist Network, Zagar Hold Media and PR Workshop

The Myanmar Journalist Network (MJN) and local public relations firm Zagar Communications recently held a workshop in a bid to promote relations between journalists and PR professionals.

The event focused on the role of PR agencies in helping local and international brands to establish a presence in Myanmar’s growing economy.

“As Myanmar's economy attracts more foreign investors and local firms face a more competitive environment, PR is becoming more important if you want to effectively explain your products, services, ideas and issues,” said Peter Witton, director of Anthem Asia, the investment company behind Zagar Communications.

“We are delighted to share our insights on how PR – a new communications discipline in Myanmar – can help members of the Myanmar Journalist Network with their work,” said Witton.

“PR professionals offer access to stories, knowledge and information; journalists need reliable stories, knowledge and information. It’s a mutual relationship built on supply and demand.”

Myint Kyaw, secretary general of MJN and interim executive director of Myanmar Journalism Institute, said understanding the nature of PR and communications agencies is important for journalists as they work on stories for readers, viewers and listeners.
