Myanmar Sees More Than 300,000 Visitors in Seven Months

Myanmar saw a total of 318,543 tourists visiting the country in the first seven months of 2013, according to official statistics.

Of the travellers, 107,750 came by air, data shows.

The number of tourist arrival is expected to increase at the end of this year as  many foreign visitors are visiting Myanmar to attend the 27th Southeast Asian Games.

Myanmar targets 2 million tourist arrivals in 2013 and up to 3 million in 2014.

In 2012, the number of tourist arrival reached 1.02 million, an increase of 200,000 compared with 2011’s figure due to sweeping reforms in Myanmar.

Authorities also granted visa-on-arrival for visitors from 48 countries in a bid to lure more visitors.
