Myanmar, Sri Lanka Seek Deeper Ties

Myanmar and Sri Lanka are seeking cooperation in economic development between the two countries.

The meeting on bilateral economic potential was held in Nay Pyi Taw last week, attended by Myanmar Minister of Commerce U Win Myint and Sri Lankan Deputy Minister for Industry and Commerce Lakshman Wasantha Perera.

Win Myint called for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in conducting exhibitions and workshops, as well as promoting tourist industries of the two countries.

He said that the ministry is mainly responsible for import/export sector of the country, focusing on ensuring smooth transportation, easing export/import restrictions and promoting trade.

Lakshman Wasantha Perera hoped to cooperate in producing value-added agricultural products and finished gems which are the main exports of Myanmar and waste management and recycling technology of Sri Lanka.
