Ooredoo Reduces SMS Rate to K15

Ooredoo Myanmar said it has reduced its SMS rate to K15 per message for all text messages sent to any network.

The move comes as Ooredoo’s Norwegian rival Telenor launched its telecoms services on September 25 with a pricing plan lower than Ooredoo’s.

Telenor’s SMS charge is K15 per text, while at the time of launch Ooredoo’s SMS rate was K25 per text.

“We’re sure our [customers] will appreciate the extra affordability,” said Thiri Kyar Nyo, Ooredoo’s spokesperson.

Ooredoo also introduced a new Voice SMS service – by dialling a (*) before the number, customers will be able to leave a personal voice message, which is delivered via SMS.

“We’re always looking for new ways to bring better experiences to customers,” said Thiri. “The ability to leave a personal voice message for friends or family is a great way for people to stay connected.”

The new Voice SMS service is available to all Ooredoo customers and is charged at K20 per message.

In addition to the new SMS offerings, Ooredoo also extended its Pay As You Go Internet promotion (K10 per MB) for 30 more days.
