Out With Old Cars, in With 120,000 New

The Road Transport Administration (RTA) announced that over 120,000 old vehicles have been exchanged at its Myinthar office since 19 September 2011.

The government has allowed vehicle owners to exchange their old vehicles at Myinthar office in Western district of Yangon region since 20011, and also opened an office in Myinchan in Mandalay region last year.

“Every vehicle which is more than 20 years old can be exchanged. The owner can exchange their vehicle here even if they only believe the vehicle is 20 years old,” said an official from the RTA, implying that documentation to prove a car’s age will not be necessary.

The authority will allow the vehicle owner to receive permission to import a new vehicle after they return the old one.
