Plans to Launch New Health Insurance System Next Year

Myanmar Insurance is planning to launch a new health insurance system as of April 1 next year aimed at enabling Myanmar people to get benefits from its first health insurance service in the country, state-run media reported.

Following credit guarantee insurance that Myanmar Insurance launched last July, health insurance will be its second new product before the launch of weather index insurance as its third new product, said the New Light of Myanmar.

Myanmar insurance is in discussion with those concerned from nine foreign insurance companies to set premiums and compensation levels.

The health insurance system will run in Yangon first as a pilot project and that private companies will be allowed to operate the service.

Seven types of insurance have been allowed so far to 12 private companies to operate in Myanmar.
