The Ministry of Commerce (MOC) announced that it has withdrawn the need for phytosanitary certificates to import seeds.
Previously, if a company wanted to import seeds, they needed both a phytosanitary certificate as well as an import certificate, which would have to be submitted together to the Department of Agriculture.
Seed importers also had to submit samples to the Ministry of Agriculture for inspection.
Director U Win Myint of MOC said, “Merchants are facing difficulties complying with the procedure so we will issue the import licence if they can simply show the import certificate. The Ministry of Agriculture agreed that it will not interfere with seed imports regardless of the phytosanitary certificate.”
