Shan Avocado Company, which made a success in exporting locally grown avocado to England, won the Entrepreneur Award given by Myanmar Avocado Producers and Exporters Association.
The association held its third annual meeting on December 27 at Zoom and awarded the company with the Entrepreneur Award.
Shan Avocado Company, founded by farmers, started exporting Myanmar avocados to Britain in November this year and received good feedback from the consumers.
Dr. Than Myint, Union Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, at the meeting of MAVO, congratulated the success of exporting three varieties of avocados to Britain and expressed appreciation for the support and collaboration of USAID and UKAid.
Myanmar avocados have demands from Singapore and China as well as European countries such as Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands. In addition to that, there is also a demand for avocado cream by Japan and South Korea
Myanmar is preparing to export the avocado to Britain under contract in 2021 while the country’s avocado also receives interest from other markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Before, around 85 percent of Myanmar’s avocado export went to Thailand but unable to export to the country since 2019.
A ton of avocado from Myanmar is quoted around $2,000 when exporting to Britain compared to $1,200 when exporting to Thailand.
