Telenor Myanmar Launches Nationwide Tune Star Contest

Telenor has announced the launch of Telenor Myanmar Tune Star, a nationwide contest to find Myanmar’s first mobile music star, inviting all aspiring musical talent across Myanmar to tap into their inner creativity and compose an original melody.

The winning melody will be used to create an exclusive audio identity for Telenor, the firm said.

The chosen tune will also be part of promotional TV and radio campaigns, and will be featured wherever the customers encounter Telenor, such as holding music for the call centre and in automated messages.

Contestants will also compete for an opportunity to work with some of Myanmar’s celebrated musicians and the chance to take home one of three major cash prizes as well as lucky draw rewards.

In addition to providing mobile communications products and services, Telenor will offer its Myanmar customers a variety of value-added services that meet their needs and preferences, details of which will be announced closer to the network launch date, Telenor said.

Ko Nay Myo Htun, spokesperson for the Telenor Myanmar Tune Star contest, said: “We are very excited to launch the first mobile music contest in Myanmar. Music can be very personal and leave a lasting impression, and we are eager to see how individual expressions of creativity, passion and originality come through this contest as well as the musical stars that will be created.

“This is an opportunity for someone to become Myanmar’s first mobile music star and to have their tune heard across the country,” he said.

Petter Furberg, CEO of Telenor Myanmar, said: “We want the people of Myanmar enjoy the opportunities that connectivity brings, such as apps and music, and look forward to the digital future that lies ahead,” adding that Telenor will bring “innovative and affordable” mobile communications products and services to Myanmar later this year.

There are several ways to join the Telenor Myanmar Tune Star contest. Participants can submit their original melody digitally via Telenor Myanmar’s Facebook Page, record or hand over their ring tune on a CD or USB drive at any of the drop-off points located in Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Magwe and Mawlamyine, or record at one of the recording booths and studios across the five towns.

Consumers across the country are invited to cast their votes via SMS, Facebook or the Telenor Myanmar Tune Star contest website, and ultimately be part of potentially launching the career of Myanmar’s first mobile music star.

Deadline for entry submissions is July 25, while public voting period is from August 12-19. The winners will be announced on August 22.

The first prize is K10 million ($10,000), while first runner-up gets K2 million and second runner-up K2 million. There are also 100 lucky draws with prizes valued at K100,000 ($100).

Composers Khin Myat Mon and Deramo, and writer and vocalist Lynn Lynn will act as judges for the competition.
