Three of Yangon’s 20 CityMart outlets will now accept payment through Myanmar Payment Union (MPU) cards.
The three outlets are Myaynigone, Junction Square and 8-mile CityMarts.
Daw May Zin Soe Htet, marketing director of City Mart, said, “We have accepted this payment system to provide better service for the customers. MPU card users are now abundant, so we decided to accept payments through these cards.”
There are 21 MPU member banks, and 15 out of those are able to issue MPU cards. Payments can be made with cards from those 15 banks.
U Zaw Lin Htut, CEO of MPU said, “There are around 3,000 shopping centres which can accept MPU cards. CityMart is the biggest among them. The majority of CityMart customers are local and we are planning to improve our systems soon.”
MPU cards were first issued in October 2012. Around 1 million consumers are using this card for payments and 30,000 to 40,000 new cards are issued per day.
Currently, there are 21 CityMart outlets; 20 in Yangon, one in Mandalay. In the country’s capital Naypyitaw the company operates under the brand name Ocean.
