Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has opened its first overseas representative office in Myanmar in a bid to expand its footprint globally.
The state-run firm’s international unit, VNPT International, will manage the office, the telecoms company said.
VNPT International also signed a deal on business cooperation and investment with several local businesses, including A1 Construction Co. Ltd, Terabit Wave, Elite Telecom Public Company Limited and Fortune International, according to VNPT website.
VNPT said the representative office in Yangon will connect the company with its customers and partners in Myanmar.
The government aims to increase the number of mobile phone users to 75-80 percent of the population by 2015 from the current level of around 10 percent, creating opportunities for international firms.
