Local internet service provider Redlink Communications will launch free Wifi hotspots in Yangon Central Station and Bogyoke Market, according to the firm’s general manager U Myo Myint Nyunt.
The plan will be implemented before the end of this year and provide high speed internet to the public for free, he said.
“The hotspot is available 24 hours a day, but users can access it for about 20 minutes before being automatically logged out,” U Myo Myint Nyunt said.
“They can log in again to continue using. This is similar to the practice in other countries.”
He said the firm aims to provide high speed internet to ensure quick access to email and websites, and have plans to set up free hotspots in other public areas.
Redlink has already launched free Wifi hotspots in some universities including Yangon University, Yangon International Airport and Bagan.
“Some people frequent the airport to use the free Wifi. The signal is excellent and you can download files or browse YouTube easily,” said Ko Myint Maw, an employee at the Yangon International Airport.
