Yangon Marathon Route and Road Closures Announced

The third annual Yoma Yangon International Marathon will be held on Sunday, January 11, starting and ending at Thuwunna National Indoor Stadium.

According to a press release, organisers have improved the path of the course based on suggestions from last year's marathon. The marathon will pass by sites such as Botahtaung Pagoda, Shwedagon Pagoda and Inya Lake.

If you prefer to travel by car, bus or taxi, expect delays that Sunday. Some of the roads which will be fully or partially closed from 4.30am till up to 11.30am include Waizayandar road, Old Strand road, Kyeemyindaing Kanner road, Baho road, Min Dhama road, Insein road, Pyay road, Inya road, Kyaik Ka San road and Lay Daung Kan road.

In addition to the full 42.195km marathon, a half marathon, 10K challenge and a 3km fun run/walk will also be held.

Last year saw more than 3,000 runners participate.
