The Yangon Regional Government will spend K45 billion to expand power supply to over 86 percent of households by the 2021 fiscal year.
To meet summertime spikes in power demand, Yangon is building a 151-megawatt combined cycle power plant in Ahlone Township, a 350-megawatt LNG-fired power plant in Thanlyin Township and a 400-megawatt LNG-fired power plant in Thaketa Township. All three plants are expected to be completed by May 2020.
The Yangon Region consumes 1,548 megawatts of electricity per day, or almost half of the country’s total power consumption. Since July 1, the region has raised fees for electricity use, doubling the cost for consumers who use over 100 units per month.
In the 2022 fiscal year, the region will spend K23 billion to expand power supply to all households including those on Coco Islands.
Since 2016, the Yangon Regional Government has provided electricity to 368 townships and 16,941 villages.
Soon, the country will be able to provide electricity for up to 50 percent of the population, compared to 34 percent at present, thanks to recently opened electrical substations in Hmawbi, Okkan and Ahpyauk townships, which together will increase power production capacity by 16 percent.
“The country spent K2.89 billion to increase power supply. Through the electrical substations, nearby residents will get benefits from access to power,” said U Win Khaing, Union Minister of Electricity and Energy.
Myanmar aims to provide electricity to 55 percent of households by the 2022 fiscal year, 75 percent of households by the 2026 fiscal year and 100 percent by 2030.

ရန်ကုန်တိုင်းဒေသကြီး၏ လျှပ်စစ်ဓာတ် အားသုံးစွဲမှုမှာ တစ်ရက်လျှင် ၁၅၄၈ မဂ္ဂါဝပ် အထိရှိပြီး တစ်နိုင်ငံလုံး၏ ထက်ဝက်နီးပါး ၅ဝ ရာခိုင်နှုန်းအထိ သုံးစွဲလျက်ရှိသည်။ ဇူလိုင်လ၁ရက်နေ့မှ စတင်၍ ရန်ကုန်တိုင်း ဒေသကြီးအတွင်း လျှပ်စစ်ဓာတ်အားသုံးစွဲသူ များကို လျှပ်စစ်မီတာခနှုန်းထားများပြောင်း လဲ ကောက်ခံလျက်ရှိသည်။ ပြောင်းလဲလိုက် သည့် နှုန်းထားအသစ်ကြောင့် အိမ်သုံးမီတာ ယူနစ်တစ်ရာနှင့်အထက် သုံးစွဲသူများ အတွက် ယခင်ဈေးထက်နှစ်ဆနီးပါးကုန်ကျ နေသည်။
လာမည့်ဘဏ္ဍာနှစ်အပြီးတွင် ငွေကျပ် ၂၃ဘီလီယံ အထိသုံးစွဲကာ ကိုကိုးကျွန်းနှင့် အခြားသော လျှပ်စစ်မီးမရရှိသေးသည့် ရန်ကုန် တိုင်းအတွင်းရှိ ကျေးရွာများအားလုံး ၁ဝဝ ရာခိုင်နှုန်း လျှပ်စစ်မီးရရှိစေရန် လုပ်ဆောင် သွားမည်ဖြစ်ကြောင်း သိရသည်။
၂ဝ၁၆ ခုနှစ်မှစတင်ပြီး သုံးနှစ်ကျော် ကာလအတွင်း ဓာတ်အားထုတ်လုပ်သည့် စက်ရုံများ တိုးချဲ့ကာ ကျေးလက်မီးလင်း ရေးဆောင်ရွက်ခဲ့သဖြင့် မြို့ပေါင်း ၃၆၈ မြို့ နှင့် ကျေးရွာပေါင်း ၁၆၉၄၁ ကျော်ကို ဓာတ် အားဖြန့်ဖြူးပေးနိုင်ခဲ့သည်။
လက်ရှိ တစ်နိုင်ငံလုံးတွင် လျှပ်စစ်ဓာတ် အား ၃၄ ရာခိုင်နှှုန်း ဖြန့်ဖြူးပေးရာမှ နိုဝင် ဘာလ ၃ဝ ရက်တွင် ဖွင့်လှစ်လိုက်သည့် မှော်ဘီမြို့နယ်၊ တပ်ကြီးကုန်း ဓာတ်အားခွဲရုံ၊ ဥက္ကံမြို့ ကျွန်းတောကုန်း ဓာတ်အားခွဲရုံနှင့် အဖျောက်မြို့အဖျောက် ဓာတ်အားခွဲရုံတို့မှ ၁၆ ရာခိုင်နှုန်းထိ ထပ်တိုးထုတ်နိုင်မှှုကြောင့် ၅ဝ ရာခိုင်နှုန်းထိ ဖြန့်ဖြူးပေးနိုင်တော့မည် ဖြစ်သည်။
