Yangon City Development Committee is building a K2.15 billion pedestrian underpass, the first-ever in Myanmar, with an expected completion date by yearend, according to YCDC member U Win Myint Than.
“We include shops with high security to make sure there are no illegal activities. The shops must be 10 feet high,” he added.
The underpass is located near Seik Pyo Yay bus stop on Pyay Road, connecting the Teacher Training Center and Myanmar Radio compound. When completed, it will be 77 feet long and 10 feet high, have earthquake-resistant features and able to accommodate people with disabilities.
A total of 46 plants growing on the site of the underpass will be relocated to Hlawgar garden.
YCDC in 2017 called for tender applications to build a pedestrian underpass on Pyay Road, at 8-Mile Junction near Shwedagon Pagoda. However, it canceled the tender process in 2018 and decided to carry out the project itself,
There are 14 pedestrian bridges in Yangon. However, the majority of pedestrians do not use them despite the K30,000 fine for failure to use zebra crossing and pedestrian bridge imposed under the Vehicle Act 2019.

ရန်ကုန်မြို့၏ ပထမဆုံးမြေအောက်လူကူးလမ်းကို ရန်ကုန်မြို့တော်စည်ပင်သာယာရေး ကော်မတီ(YCDC)က ကျပ်ငွေ ၂ ဒသမ ၁၅ ဘီလီယံအကုန်အကျခံ၍ ယခုနှစ်အတွင်း အပြီး ဖောက်လုပ်သွားမည်ဖြစ်ကြောင်း YCDC ကော်မတီဝင် (၇) ဦးဝင်းမြင့်သန်းက ပြောသည်။
“ ကျွန်တော်တို့က ဈေးဆိုင်ခန်းတွေမပါဘူးဆိုရင် မဟုတ်တာလုပ်တာတို့ ဖြစ်လာမယ်။ ဒီလို့မဖြစ်ရအောင် လုံခြုံရေး ကောင်းမွန်ရန် ဈေးှဆိုင်ခန်းတွေ ထည့်ထားတယ်။ ဆိုင်ခန်း အမြင့်က ၁၀ ပေရှိပါမယ် ” ဟု ဦးဝင်းမြင့်သန်းက မီဒီယာများနှင့် တွေ့ဆုံစဉ်ပြောသည်။
အဆိုပါ မြေအောက်လူကူးလမ်းသည် ပြည်လမ်းမပေါ်ရှိ စိုက်ပျိုးရေးမှတ်တိုင်အနီးတွင် အရှည် ၇၇ ပေ အမြင့် ၁၀ ပေအထိ တည်ဆောက်မည့်မြေအောက်လူကူးလမ်းကို ငလျင်ဒဏ်ခံနိုင်ရန်လည်း ထည့်သွင်း တည်ဆောက်သွားမည်ဖြစ်ပြီး ရန်ကုန်ပညာရေး တက္ကသိုလ်လေ့ကျင့်ရေး အထက်တန်းကျောင်း (TTC) နှင့် မြန်မာ့အသံဝင်း ဘက်သို့ ချိတ်ဆက်ဖောက်လုပ်မည်ဖြစ်ကြောင်း သိရသည်။
ယင်းမြေအောက်လူကူးလမ်းတွင် မသန်စွမ်းသူများသွားလာရလွယ်ကူစေရန် ဆောင်ရွက်ထားပြီး လမ်းစီမံကိန်းနေရာတွင်ပါဝင်သည့် သစ်ပင် ၄၆ ပင်ကိုလည်း လှော်ကားဥယျာဉ်သို့ ပြောင်းရွှေ့စိုက်ပျိုးထားပြီး ဖြစ်ကြောင်း YCDC မှ သိရသည်။
၂၀၁၇ ခုနှစ်တွင် ရန်ကုန်မြို့အတွက်ပထမဆုံးမြေအောက်လူကူးလမ်းဖော်လုပ်ရန် ပြည်လမ်း၊ ရှစ်မိုင်လမ်းဆုံနှင့် ရွှေတိဂုံဘုရားတို့တွင် မြေအောက်လူကူး လမ်းသုံးခု တင်ဆောက်ရန် တင်ဒါခေါ်ယူခဲ့ သော်လည်း ၂၀၁၈ ခုနှစ်တွင် အဆိုပါ တင်ဒါကို ပယ်ဖျက်ခဲ့ကြောင်း YCDC မှ သိရသည်။
ရန်ကုန်မြို့တွင် လူကူးကျော်တံတား (၁၄) ခုထိရှိပြီး လမ်းသွားလမ်းများအနေဖြင့် အဆိုပါတံတားများကို အသုံးမပြုဘဲလမ်းဖြတ်ကူးနေကြဆဲဖြစ်သည်။ လမ်းဖြတ်ကူးရာတွင် လူကူးခုံးကျော်တံတားနှင့် လူကူးမျဉ်းကြားမှ ဖြတ်မကူးပါက ၂၀၁၅ ခုနှစ် မော်တော်ယာဉ်ဥပဒေအရ ဒဏ်ငွေသုံးသောင်းအထိ ပေးဆောင်ရန် သတ်မှတ်ထားသည်။
